Overview
To all those who’ve journeyed with Conservative Tours to the D Day Beaches you understand how we craft an event like this. Our goal is to savoir the beauty and exquisite culture of three European countries while also plunging into the not-so-distant history of a movement and an ideology that almost succeeded in conquering Europe, including Great Britain & Joseph Stalin’s Soviet Union.
This tour adventure has been 2 years in the making and as with our similar events to Asia and Europe, it will be substantive historically and satisfyingly pleasurable, with great cities big and small, fine dining and elegant hotel properties for your lodging comfort and pleasure.

Munich Frauenkirche, Bavarian State
Day 1: Munich
Willkommen in München
Welcome to Munich, Germany’s “secret capital.” With its exuberant atmosphere and vitality, Munich is one of Europe’s great cultural centers and is considered Germany’s most enjoyable big city. Moreover, all the elegance and style that made Munich so lovely before the war are what make Munich so beautiful today as all the destruction via Allied bombing has been meticulously restored!

Generations of serious drinkers rent lockers for their personal beer tankards at the Hofbräuhaus in Munich
Your guide from Conservative Tours will meet your group at the airport and after a short panoramic tour of beautiful Munich you arrive at your hotel in the heart of the city. In the evening you’ll enjoy a hearty welcome dinner at the world-famous Hofbräuhaus in Munich, accompanied by live folkloric Bavarian music.

Nymphenburg Palace
Day 2: Munich
Full day touring Munich: Hitler’s Third Reich, Nymphenburg Palace
In the morning you discover the highlights of Munich, like Marienplatz, Munich’s lovely medieval heart, and glimpse the famous Glockenspiel. Since Munich was the birthplace of the Nazi Party at nearly each turn in the city center we’ll be identifying Nazi haunts and edifices, many of which stand today. The official title in fact of Munich was Hauptstadt der Bewegung, which translates as: The Capital of the National Socialist Movement. Hitler was every bit the orator and Munich was his literal stage, from the early meeting places which were often beer halls, to the locations where he’d deliver major speeches, from the first meeting at the Hofbräuhaus to the unsuccessful attempt to come to power in the Beer Hall Putsch at the Feldherrenhalle. Kristallnacht also had its genesis here in Munich. We’ll learn more about the emergence of Nazism, Hitler’s rise and the inability of any great power to thwart the rise of the Third Reich before it was too late.

We’ll visit areas of Munich where ghosts of the 1930’s abound

Thousands attended each rally
Additionally, we’ll walk to the scene of mass staged party meetings and rallies at Königsplatz and stop in the Hofgarten to talk about the White Rose resistance group. As American students of history we associate Munich with the epic event of the appeasement that handed the Sudeten Land to Hitler in exchange of his promise of peace. The building which held this monumental conference of Hitler, Mussolini, Chamberlain and Daladier still stands today near Konigsplatz. With nearly 900 years of colorful and charming history to its claim, it’s still easy to visit Munich’s dark past from a century ago.
Nymphenburg Palace
Henriette Adelaide of Savoy built a beautiful summer residence west of Munich. The tour includes a guided visit of Nymphenburg palace with the massive great hall decorated in Rococo.

Beautiful evening view of the fairy tale Neuschwanstein castle, with autumn colors during sunset in Bavaria
Day 3 “Mad King Ludwig” and The Fairy Tale Castles
Neuschwanstein & Linderhof
Don’t come to Germany without a fairy tale stop at one of Deutschland’s stunningly beautiful castles; and today we’re going to discover the best: Neuschwanstein and Linderhof, two of the most opulent castles, built by Ludwig II, the fairytale King of Bavaria. The excursion into the so-called “cleric” Pfaffenwinkel region includes a stop at Wieskirche, an amazing display of Bavarian Rococo art.
We’ll enjoy an extensive guided tour of the fairy-tale castle Neuschwanstein built by King Ludwig II on an imposing rock in the seclusion of the mountains, hard by the Alps. The King was exclusive, reclusive and most often a touch excentric……and you’ll see firsthand what we mean!
The scenery in this region, both natural and man-made, reminds you of why you came to Europe in the first place. The pristine medieval village beneath Neuschwanstein Castle is called Fussen; and from the perch of the castle one can see the village, the lakes and the colorful valleys that stretch as far as the eye can see. Close by are the old castle of Hohenschwangau and the crystal clear Alpsee Lake. Lunch stop will be in Oberammergau, famous for its woodcarvers and home to the famous passion play, held every 10 years for centuries.
Oberammergau is noted for its attractive and beautifully decorated painted houses, typical of Upper Bavaria. After lunch a guided tour invites you to discover Linderhof Castle, Mad Ludwig’s favorite castle surrounded by beautiful gardens. Be prepared—–Ludwig wanted to emulate Louis XIV and his playground we call Versailles! By the end of this Bavarian Wonderland day trip you’ll be back at your hotel in Munich.

Day 4 Dachau Memorial
Dachau Concentration Camp
Dachau was the first concentration camp built and operated by the Nazi regime. A few weeks after Adolf Hitler had been appointed Reich Chancellor a concentration camp for political prisoners was set up in this village near Munich. It served as a model for all later concentration camps and as a “school of violence” for the SS men under whose rule it stood. As with other

Memorial at Dachau
Nazi death camps it played an integral role in the “Final Solution” of European Jews but also was the place of death for other minorities targeted by the ideology of the regime (homosexuals, gypsies, mentally retarded and physically handicapped, et al.)
In the twelve years of Dachau’s existence: over 200,000 people from the four corners of Europe were imprisoned here and in numerous sub-camps, 41,500 were murdered.
On April 29, 1945, American troops liberated the camp and its few survivors. Explore the remaining buildings and reconstructions and be captivated by the biographies of former prisoners. Maintained as a memorial, this visit at Dachau will provide unvarnished insight into one of the most prominent features of The Third Reich: the systematic extermination of one’s opponents on a mass scale.

Aerial view of Garmisch-Partenkirchen at summer time
Day 5 Garmisch and Zugspitze
Garmisch & Zugspitze Mountain
Today we’ll meander to the foothills of the Alps and their rolling green valleys. Discover the picturesque town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen on a walk through the streets and alleys from Richard-Strauss-Platz, the pedestrian zone, through narrow passageways replete with history and fables, painted “Lüftlmalerei” houses, and beautiful squares providing a green oasis in the village.
We then continue to the valley station of the Zugspitze, Germany’s highest mountain, at 2963 meters tall.

To the top of the German Alps
With the new cable car we can reach the top of the mountain in a few minutes from where you can enjoy a spectacular four-country view into the two and three thousand meter peaks (and the only four thousand meter peak) of the Eastern Alps. The spacious terrace permits views of the Großglockner, the Piz Bernina and even the television tower in Munich!!!
Since December 2017, the ultra-modern Zugspitze cable car has been opening up the country’s highest mountain with maximum comfort for passengers. The two large-capacity cabins with floor-to-ceiling picture windows each offer space for up to 120 people and can transport up to 580 people per hour to the summit without waiting. The descent takes place on the historic rack railway, a leisurely way to drink in the marvelous views!
