Description & Itinerary

Day One – Overnight flight from USA to Portugal

Day TwoArrival in Lisbon, Portugal, and be greeted by your Conservative Tours tour leader for transfer to your hotel in Porto. En route we stop in Obidos, one of Portugal’s oldest Roman settlements to visit the city center including the medieval tower & Óbidos Castle surrounded by the original city walls. Enjoy a local lunch, including the Portuguese liquor called Ginjinha. In the afternoon check in to your hotel in Porto. Tonight dinner is on your own. Porto’s old town is called the Ribeira District, a Unesco World Heritage Site where locals mingle on the banks of the River Douro.

Day ThreePorto City Tour & Wine Tasting.
This morning start your day with breakfast at your hotel. Next, your day’s activities include a tour of Porto. In Porto, enjoy the Stock Exchange, St. Francis Church and Port Wine Cellars with the delicious opportunity to sample world famous port wine during a tasting experience at a local winery. Our tour will end with a spectacular Douro River Six Bridges Cruise. This evening enjoy dinner on your own among one of the many animated restaurants in this charming city!

Day FourDouro Valley Porto
After breakfast departure for the Douro Valley, home to the vineyards where Port Wine and Portugal’s most coveted red wines are produced. Savor a local wine tasting session while enjoying the spectacular scenery where verdant terraced hills and colorful fields dotted by almond trees meet the vast Douro River. Today enjoy a local lunch at a traditional restaurant. In the afternoon we return to Porto. Evening at leisure.

Day Five Porto – Guimarães – Santiago de Compostela
Today we travel to Santiago De Compostela (Spain) through the Minho Province, home of the famous Vinho Verde. Visit Guimarães, the first capital and birthplace of Portugal, enjoy the medieval city center, decorated with beautiful granite facades. Today enjoy a local lunch including Vinho Verde wine and local cheese. In the afternoon we cross the border and continue onward to Galicia, one of the many beautiful regions of Spain. In the afternoon check in at your hotel in Santiago followed by an evening at leisure. 

Day Six – Santiago de Compostela – Finisterre
This morning a pleasant stroll with your tour leader introduces you to the historic city center. Then you may attend Mass in St. James Cathedral, which houses the Apostle James’ remains beneath the high altar and the famous Botafumeiro. This afternoon journey to Cabo Finisterre, where pilgrims have traditionally completed their journey and burned their robes. Later, return to Santiago de Compostela, known throughout history for the key 9th-century pilgrimage route, the Camino de Santiago (or Way of Saint James) with time to explore on your own before dinner.

Day Seven – Santiago – Fatima.
After breakfast in your hotel departure for Fatima. Today enjoy a local lunch at a traditional restaurant. In the afternoon we continue our journey through Portugal to Fatima where in 1917 Mary appeared to local children and the “miracle of the sun” occurred. Following dinner guests may participate in the evening’s Candlelight Procession. 

Day Eight – Fatima

This morning guests will have the option of free time in the morning to visit Fatima or for those wishing to practice the faith we participate in the Stations of the Cross along the path that the shepherd children used to tend to their flock en route to the Cova de Iria where Our Lady appeared to the children. Here we pause to recite the Holy Rosary. Next all guests gather to visit nearby Aljustrel to visit the House of Lucia and House of Francisco and Jacinta, as well as the Fatima Parish Church, known as the Church of the Three Shepherds, where the Fatima children were baptized. In the afternoon we will visit the Shrine and Basilica of Our Lady, followed by free time to explore the Sanctuary’s grounds. This evening we’ll enjoy dinner together at your hotel. 

Day Nine – Lisbon 
Morning departure for Lisbon. Morning guided tour of Lisbon…..one of Europe’s most beautiful and dynamic capitals, a myriad of delights as Portugal’s star attraction, yet with a fraction of the fuss of other European capitals. Cathedrals, birthplace of Saint Anthony , monasteries and charming museums are all part of the colorful cityscape. Enjoy a guided tour, including the old quarter of Alfama, as well as the Belem quarter and its monuments including Jeronimos Monastery, the Belem Tower, and the Monument to the Discoveries. Voyages of discovery turned Lisbon into one of the world’s greatest ports. Tonight explore Lisbon & some of the traditional restaurants on your own. 

Day Ten – Lisbon 
Today explore Sintra, Cabo da Roca, Cascais and Estoril. Your first stop on this fascinating day’s adventures is the historic town of Sintra, where a walking tour takes you to delve into the village’s treasures and includes a tour of the Palacio Nacional de Sintra . Next it’s on to Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of Continental Europe. Your day’s activities take you along to the famous resort of Cascais and the cosmopolitan coastal village of Estoril. Late afternoon return to Lisbon. Tonight enjoy a farewell dinner Fado show. Meaning “destiny or “fate,” fado is the urban folk music of Portugal. It thrives today in the country’s bars, taverns and fado houses for everyone to relish as a global melodic symbol of Portuguese culture and tradition. 

Day Eleven – Lisbon to USA
Depart your hotel and transfer to Lisbon Airport for your return flight home.
