Day 1 Depart USA

Most guests will be departing late afternoon from our USA gateway for this event, Philadelphia, on American Airlines flight number 758.  Dinner served on board during your trans-Atlantic flight.

Day 2,    Arrival in Athens, capital of Greece.

Welcome to glorious Greece! Meet your Conservative Tours Tour Director and chauffeur  for transfer to your hotel in Athens.   

Athens, the historical capital of Greece known as the Cradle of Western Civilization and the Birthplace of Democracy! Early afternoon check in at your hotel in Athens. Later this afternoon enjoy an orientation walking tour of the city center and Plaka historical district, which has been nicely pedestrianized and has re-discovered some of its original charm that makes it a true neighborhood.   Let’s feast on some classic Greek cuisine for our welcome to Greece dinner together this evening.  

Day  4   Mycenae – Nauplion   

Morning departure for Nauplion and en route we visit  Mycenae—–the heartland of Greek mythology, where 19th century excavations reveal impressions of the grandeur and ornateness vividly described by Homer. Visit the Acropolis and the Tomb of Atreus, erected in 1250 B.C. Today enjoy a traditional lunch at a local restaurant together. In the afternoon time at leisure to explore gorgeous Nauplion on your own.  Nafplio,  one of the most beautiful towns in the area of Argolis, which flourished during the Byzantine era.   

According to mythology, the town was founded by Náfplios, son of the god Poseidon. This evening we’ll savor our first dining event together as a group of local Greek specialties!

Day 5 Archaeological Sites of Olympia – Olive oil tasting & winery lunch event.  

This morning departure for Olympia and visit the ancient stadium where the Olympic Games were first held.  In fact the stadium has been resurrected for its original purpose to the delight of lovers of sport!   Next we’ll head to a nearby olive oil farm and winery to enjoy the tempting products during a leisurely lunch.  Later in the afternoon we’ll check in at your hotel and you’ll have the evening at leisure.

Day  6 Olympia – Delphi

Morning departure for Delphi through Gulf of Corinth, crossing at the modern and spectacularly imposing Rio Antirrio Bridge!   Upon arrival in Delphi visit the Archaeological Museum, perched on the slopes of Mount Parnassos, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Considered one of the most significant places in Greek history, its stunning setting and ancient ruins are truly inspirational. Western Civilization owes much to the Greeks, and a visit to Delphi reminds us that to the Ancient Greeks Delphi was considered the center of the world.  It was home to the most important Greek temple and oracle of Apollo; and therefore directly impacted the affairs of state.   We’ll stroll the Sacred Way to the imposing 4th century Temple of Apollo, site of the most important oracle in the classical world. Later some time at leisure and another fine Grecian dining event together tonight.

Day 7 Delphi – Lavrion – Mykonos

Today we drive through the rolling Central hills of mainland Greece to the bustling port of Lavrion to board your cruise ship for a 1 PM departure (that’s 13:00.)  Your idyllic Aegean Sea escape begins aboard your cruise ship as we sail peacefully towards our first port of call, Mykonos!   Bon Voyage!

Arrive in Mykonos at 18:00 and depart Mykonos at 23:00.

The magical sun-kissed island of Mykonos invites you to admire its stunning coastline, soft sandy beaches, and rugged rocky landscape. Affectionately known as the ‘Island of the Winds’, Mykonos is home to the 16th-Century windmills that have become iconic landmarks on postcards. The energetic Greek island is well known for its beauty, diverse range of bars, cafes and restaurants and a vibrant atmosphere in its coastal villages.

Day 8 Kusadasi (Turkey) & the island of Patmos

Morning arrival in Kusadasi (Turkey.) Arrive at 07:00. Depart at 13:00     The dynamic beach resort of Kusadasi welcomes you with its warm and friendly ambience. Book an optional once-in-a-lifetime excursion and be whisked away for a guided tour round ancient Ephesus, one of the highlights of this iconic Aegean experience. In ancient times Ephesus straddled a key trade route leading to Asia, thus its initial significance.  Ephesus was also home to The Temple of Artemis, a renowned religious center and one of the Seven Wonders of the World.  In Christianity Ephesus is believed to be the last home of the Virgin Mary.

Before re-boarding the ship, take time to enjoy the scenic seafront promenade and the town’s impressive Grand Bazaar.

Arrive in Patmos at 16:30.   Depart at 21:30 

The medieval walls at the port of Skala provide a picturesque setting as we pull into the idyllic Greek island of Patmos. Steeped in biblical history, the island earned its title ‘Island of the Apocalypse’ from St. John, who is said to have received his visions and written the Book of Revelation here. The Cave of the Apocalypse, a sacred pilgrimage site, and the magnificent 11th-century monastery are well worth a visit for those wishing to explore the island’s spiritual heritage. With forest-like hills encircling the capital, Chora, and colorful views across the bay, Patmos is the perfect place to drink in the scenery of the pristine Mediterranean Sea amidst the Greek Islands!

Day 9   Rhodes

Arrive in Rhodes  at 07:00. Depart at 18:00.

The stunning landscape of Greece’s largest Dodecanese Islands, Rhodes, seamlessly incorporates dramatic ancient and historic sites with charming modern hillside villages. Here, you can book an excursion to visit the majestic medieval fortification of the Acropolis at Lindos, perched on the clifftop above the crystalline Aegean. Take time to explore the cobbled alleyways and narrow arteries in the Old Town, where you will discover opulent architecture with Ottoman (Turkish) and Italian influence.

Day 10   Heraklion – Santorini

Arrive in Heraklion at 07:00.   Depart at 12:00 (Noon.)

As we pull into Heraklion, you have the chance to snap a picture of the imposing 16th-century walls of Koules Fortress framing the harbour. Soak up the calm of Heraklion’s stunning waterfront, and let Crete’s extraordinary depth draw you further in. Ancient palaces steeped in myth and legend, centuries of Venetian history, sweeping countryside landscapes, golden beaches and a rich culinary culture all await beyond the port. In Heraklion, Crete’s past and present feel wonderfully close, giving every moment a sense of discovery.

Arrive in Santorini at 16:30.  Depart at 21:30.

The spectacular sweeping scenery of Santorini will simply take your breath away. The romantic island is dotted with traditional whitewashed houses and blue-domed churches that are clustered over the striking cliffs. It is instantly recognizable as one of the world’s most photographed picture-postcard landscapes. The charming villages provide a beguiling oasis of tranquility and beauty that will exceed all your expectations.

Day 11  Athens (Lavrion) 

While your cruise may be drawing to an end, the tantalizing city of Athens still lies ahead. Delve deep into the city’s side streets, bursting with life and culture. Or, clamber up high to the Acropolis for a stunning view of this thriving, cosmopolitan city. As the sun sets, take in the Athens skyline by night and wonder at the dancing Aegean.
